2024 dust drawing was made as a result of training myself to make use of materials that are already present. As part of this research, I began to ‘harvest’ dust. I find it remarkable how a residue of the past gathers itself in particles on the surface of a space.

For this installation, the dust was spread on the floor, and a drawing was made by using the back of the same brush that had collected it. The image depicts a figure sawing off its own chair leg—a reference to the Dutch saying “de poten onder iemands stoel wegzagen”. 

dust drawing was shown as part of group exhibition Outside/in at De Garage Mechelen and has been acquired by S.M.A.K. Ghent within the framework of Collection builders.
