2018-2019
ideal weather conditions existed in unannounced walks with masks of a cloud, a sun and a rainbow. The people wearing them aren’t actors or performers — they, just for today, choose to go through life as a weather element — playing with the fluid nature of identity. Tomorrow they may switch masks or return to being ‘just human’, but today, they provide their environment with the ideal weather conditions for a variety of activities.

With this work, I gave form to a personal desire to become a cloud.
Starting from my own questions around gender and sexuality, I began to reflect on the broader discourse surrounding queerness. Inspired by transgender identity politics — particularly ideas of fluidity and self-definition — I began to play with the notion of imagining a self beyond the human form. By walking through the city as weather elements, we explored what queerness means in relation to public space — observing how people react to otherness with curiosity, openness, and a sense of play.

Ideals weather conditions marked the beginning of my relating with things and natural elements. By stepping into the shoes - or clouds - of something other than human, I wanted to explore our capacity for empathy and the imaginary worlds we construct. Worlds shaped by religion, myths, fairytales, and sacred stories — the alternative realities we turn to in order to escape, understand, or rewrite our own.
