— How does a shape celebrate? By whom is it celebrated? And what does a shape party require? Does every shape appreciate a circular pie? Is the triangle the only one benefitting from typical party flags? —
With masks made of cardboard and paper maché, we tried inhabiting the lives of different shapes.
Shape Party was made as part of a project called Attempts to be more kind, during a residency at Galerija 101 in Kaunas. Invited by Margarita Žigutytė, and together with Els Dillen, I continued exploring animism, care, and kindness. By adopting the point of view of objects and imagining how they wish to be cared for, we created a playground of assumptions that became the basis for a series of intentional acts. These acts resulted in a collection of drawings, workshops, texts, sculptures, performances, participatory experiments, and videos.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the residency was adapted to take place in our studio in Belgium, with Margarita guiding the process remotely. The residency was supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
